December 2013 Online Income Report

My goal in building an online business is to earn more than I currently make in my day job so I can quit the ratrace. In calculating my December 2013 online income report, this year I was able to earn 87% of my day job income through my online business. Just an increase of another $50/day in 2014 will allow me to finally quit my day job.

2013 is the first year that I have tracked my monthly online income. Here is a comparison of my yearly income from my day job versus my online income.

$35,870.05 day job income

$31,305.66 online income

Here is a breakdown of where I earned money online December 2013

Adsense

For yet another month I have seen an increase in my adsense earnings. All of this is coming from my niche website iHvacZone. It took several months to get my niche website ranked for about a dozen different keywords.  Now that it is ranking the number of daily visitors to my website has grown.

I created this website in response to the Niche Website Duel run by Pat Flynn. Check out my articles on overcoming adversity and raining success stories to learn how I picked my niche website and got it ranked for selected keywords.

My adsense earnings for December increased of my earnings from November. This is 3 straight months that my earnings have increased with adsense. In December 2013 I earned $8.49 from adsense.

Book Royalties

This is yet another income stream that I am able to bank each and every month while doing absolutely nothing. I published several books on Amazon several years ago.

Every month since then I have banked my book royalty checks. It is a nice stream of income. If I spent time actually promoting my books I am sure that I can probably double this monthly income.

Without doing anything I earned $134.31 from book royalties from Amazon.

Product Sales

A year ago I published my Amazon Affiliate Bible. It was a very comprehensive  course detailing how to improve your conversions and income from being an Amazon Affiliate.

Even though it was geared toward Amazon Affiliates the information in my Amazon Affiliate Bible could be applied to anyone that is an affiliate.

Since releasing the Amazon Affiliate Bible, I keep getting affiliates that want to promote my product. As a result I get income from the sales.

I pay 60% in commissions to affiliates so I only earn 40% from each sale. Even so in December 2013 I earned $136 from product sales.

Affiliate Marketing

I have said it before and I will say it again – Affiliate Marketing is my bread and butter for making money online.  If you have not created your own product to sell then you can start making money online by promoting other people’s products.

If you are not sure how to get started with affiliate marketing I put together a 7 step process to follow with affiliate marketing. It is broken down into two different posts. You can read part 1 here and part 2 here. After reading those read the post about 7 traits of successful people on how to get started with affiliate marketing.

I promote a wide range of affiliate products. In December I am proud to report that I earned $91.10 in commissions from Rogue Fitness. The income from this affiliate program has been steadily increasing each month. I can’t wait till I get this up to around $500 per month!

I also took in a nice commission check from Dragon Door. When you promote affiliate products make sure you promote a wide range of different products.

During December I earned $1,887.32 from affiliate marketing.

Finishing Strong in 2013

I started posting on a regular basis to my blog in 2013. In 10 months I was able to build my website to point that it ended December 2013 I had 5,066 visitors.

I made my first post in February 2013 and I had an average of 21 visitors per day. By the end of the year my website had grown to an average of 163 visitors per day. That is tremendous growth and I thank each and every one of my readers for joining me on my journey.

Projections for 2014

I have been working on my new meal plan website MyEdesia. In January I will be working on content for the website and branding the weekly meal plans.

My programmer is scheduled to start working on my map website on Monday. He is projecting it will take him 2 weeks to complete the website.

I provided a very detail update on my two new websites in my recent update post. It is worth reading because it shows you the ups and downs I have experienced with both websites. It also shows how persistence has paid off greatly in the development of both websites.

In 2013 I earned 87% of my day job income from my online business. My goal is to grow this so that it is at 100%+. This will allow me to quit my day job and escape the ratrace.

I have high expectations for these two new websites. I only need $50/day more in online income to escape. These two new websites will get me to that point.

The first thing I will do when escaping the ratrace will be to visit Fiji to thank my coach who has helped me to grow and change as an individual. This growth has had a tremendous positive impact on my success this year. It is an interesting story how we crossed paths and I eventually got him to be my coach.

What are your goals for 2014? What effort are you taking to make sure you reach those goals?

  1. Thanks for sharing your income reports and quality information on affiliate marketing. Thanks for sharing one of your niche sites. I am new to affiliate marketing so it’s always inspiring viewing other affiliate websites. I came across your blog about 6 months ago, along with pat Flynn and it inspired me to get involved with earning passive income online.
Thanks again for the great articles, I enjoy watching you progress to your goal.

  3. Thanks so much for sharing your reports, Jennifer! I’m new to blogging as of this year and want to start getting into affiliate marketing next. I’m currently living in South Korea and will be heading back to the states in a couple of months and want to get something started before then. I’m not interested in getting a ‘real’ job so I think this will be a good start to doing something on my own to keep my entrepreneurial mindset going. I’m currently in the research phase of what exactly I want to do, but all of your posts have been very helpful and motivating..especially the income reports! :] Thanks & best of luck with accomplishing your goal of quitting your day job! Sounds like 2014 will be a good year for you. šŸ˜€

  5. Hi Jennifer,
I just found your blog as I’m looking to connect with other folks sharing their online income reports.
I started writing mine few months ago and it gave me a great motivation and confidence šŸ™‚

I really hope you can quit the rat race soon and fully dedicate to your online projects… then you’ll see that with more time to dedicate they’ll grow more and more!!
But why are you waiting for the online income to match your regular job income?

    Ciao!

    1. Daniele,

I wait because like everyone I have expenses like food, rent etc so I have to make enough money to cover that. I want to be earning more than my day job so I can then account for the extra expense of paying self employment tax and health insurance.

Wow, amazed that you heard me being interviewed on the radio! It was a great experience because they setup the interview in the middle of the mynams conference so the attendees were walking by while we were talking.

  8. Hi Jennifer, this is my first time on your site and it looks like you’ve got some great stuff here! For me, 2013 was also the first year where I documented my income and it really helped me see where I should be concentrating my efforts.

I saw on another post that you mentioned you’re participating in Niche Site Duel 2.0. I was going to do it too but I wasn’t motivated this time. However I did do NSD 1.0 and that’s where I got my start in internet marketing. The site I built for NSD 1.0 was what got me to my first $100/month online. I have since moved onto other things but it was a great learning experience following along with others.

Good luck in 2014! Looks like you’re definitely on track to achieving your goals.
