My June 2014 Online Income Report is my first income report from my time of being “unemployed.” If you have been following my Internet Marketing Journey then you will know that I permanently left the ratrace on May 30th.
For the month of June I woke up every day knowing that I was going to be my own boss and I did not have to drive to a 9-5 job and spend 9 hours a day in a cubicle working for somebody else.
Instead I get up everyday and get the opportunity to work on something for myself. I chose when I wake up, when I go to bed and when I get to do anything.
I don’t have to be beholden to a boss to approve my request to take time off for vacation. In fact I am leaving tomorrow to go on a short trip to the north eastern part of the US with my mother and younger sister. We will be gone for 5 days. One day will be spent staying on Monhegan Island in Maine. The other 4 days we are going to be driving 1,855 miles and cover 13 states. Strange way to travel but not unusual for my family. The best part is that the hard work I put in over the past two years has gotten me to the point where I can spontaneously plan a holiday like this and be on a plane less than two weeks later.
Look for a future post where I talk about my daily life during my first month of being unemployed.
Let me get back to my post showing my income during my first month of being unemployed. And without any further fanfare here is my impressive online income report for June 2014
Contractor Work
When I decided to quit my day job I gave my employer a 6 week notice. Not to burn any bridges I offered to help them out after I left if they needed my help.
Sure enough I was called back by my employer to do some work because they did not have anybody else that could do the work.
So for several different days I spent a couple of hours here and there helping them out. Luckily for me it was work that I could do from home so I didn’t have to drive into their office.
For June I earned $450 in contractor work for my previous employer. The irony is my previous employer is responsible for about 5% of my earnings this month!
Sale of Website
Several months ago one of my readers approached me about purchasing several of my Amazon Affiliate websites. I eventually sold him two of my websites.
Last month I ended up doing the same thing again and sold another one of my websites. This website had absolutely nothing to do with promoting Amazon products.
Instead this website provided valuable content for people that are interested in self-improvement, NLP and accomplishing their life goals. The main purpose of the website was to funnel people into attending tickets to one (or more) of Tony Robbins live events.
With Tony Robbins events you can refer three people that purchase a ticket and then you get a ticket for free. You can then turn around and sell that ticket for between $400 and $500.
If you refer seven people that purchase a ticket then your get two free tickets and these are upgraded to a VIP ticket. You can sell that VIP ticket for around $750.
Over the past year I had written almost 50 articles for this website. I had also created several unique infographics similar to the one I did for my About Page.
I had not pursued much of anything with this website but I still got free tickets from people purchasing tickets to Tony Robbins UPW event.
A fellow Tony Robbins crew member approached me about the website. We worked out a deal and I ended up selling him the website. He will definitely put in the time and effort to promote the material on the website giving him the potential to easily sell around 10+ tickets each time Tony Robbins produces a UPW event.
With 4 events a year that means he has the opportunity to easily earn around $8,000 or more per year with this website.
I sold the website for $2,500.
Book Royalties
Every month I get a check in the mail from Amazon for my Book Royalties. Since I have my books published in both print and Kindle format, I actually get 2 checks each month from Amazon for Book Royalties.
The checks I got last month were much higher than I have gotten in previous months. Not sure why there was increase. I am just glad to have the extra bump in income when I cash the checks.
In June I earned $94.33 in Book Royalties from Amazon.
Adsense
I am putting my Adsense income right next to Book Royalties because I do absolutely no work to generate the income from either of these sources.
Just like my book royalties I saw a big increase in my Adsense earnings. In fact it was such a huge jump that I double checked it to make sure I had it right.
My HVAC Zone website is my biggest source of income with Adsense. Last month I had a huge jump in orders from Amazon that originated from my HVAC website. I promote books on HVAC certification as well as tools that HVAC contractors need to have.
Evidently there was another Google update recently and my website got a positive benefit from this update. My website moved up in rankings about books and exam prep guides for the HVAC exam. This resulted in people purchasing the books from Amazon. This also greatly increased my Adsense income.
In June I earned $49.54 from Adsense income. Clearly last month I earned an amount equivalent to what I earned the previous 12 months combined.
Product Sales
After having stellar increase in income for Book Royalties and Adsense, I did not have the same outcome with sales of my own products.
In fact June may have been the worst month in the sales of my own products in the past year.
This shows the wisdom of having multiple streams of income instead of putting all of your eggs into one basket. When this income stream tanks then I have two other income streams that are up greatly to offset this loss in income.
In June I earned $270.40 from sales of my own products.
Solo Ads
There are many people that are easily generating five figures a month in income selling solo ads. I do sell solo ads but I do not earn the same amount of income.
Instead of trying to spam your email list by sending emails to them two or three times a day in hopes they click on a link, I have chosen to take another path with solo ads. I get people on my list that are more likely to spend money than people you would find on a traditional solo ads list. Then I market to them products that they might use. if they purchase then I get a commission.
My unsubscribe rate is much, much lower than you would see on any traditional solo ad list. Plus my open rates and click thru rate (CTR) is 10x to 15x greater than with a traditional solo ad list.
For example I can recommend a $97 product to my list and end up with 5 people purchasing. With 50% commission I just earned $242.50 in commissions.
Most traditional solo ad sellers charge around $40 to send a 100 click solo ad. Compared to me a traditional solo ad seller would have to sell 6+ solo ads to generate the same amount of income I got from sending one email to my list. As you can see this “modified” method of solo ads that I have adopted has turned out to be quite profitable.
During my first month of being unemployed I spent quite a bit of time building up my list. As a result I ended up moving my lists from Aweber to GetResponse. The primary reason being cost. The size of my lists started moving me into the larger price brackets for Aweber. Having the same number of contacts at GetResponse would save me quite a bit each month.
Overall the user interface on Aweber is much better than GetResponse. Every other functionality like creating a new list, sending emails to lists and setting up autoresponders is the same between the two. Get Response is cheaper.
If you are interested in trying out Get Response, click on this link and get a $30 credit when you become a paying customer.
My modified method of solo ads generated $1,891.00 in income in June.
Affiliate Marketing
Affiliate Marketing is clearly my bread and butter both in expertise and ROI. This is the method most people use to break into making money online.
This is one of the most cost effective method of generating income without worrying how to rank on the first page of Google or going through the process of producing and selling your own products.
Anybody can do affiliate marketing.
Even though I do not promote products or have affiliate links and banners on my website like most of my competitors do, I still promote products to my list.
In June I earned $1,020.00 from Affiliate Marketing.
Video
Last month I earned income from producing a video for a friend for a marketing event. Unfortunately this month I didn’t earn any income from Video.
So you might wonder why I am including it in my June 2014 online income report? Well the simple answer is vanity. I produced a video for my younger sister for the first Geocache event ever in Jackson County, Georgia.
You guys are just going to have to suck it up and watch this video that I created for her to show to all the government officials in response to the event.
It was an incredible event. Blackshears, GA does an annual Geocache event and they had 49 people show up at their event. So initially they wanted to have 50 people to show up just to beat them. The reality is they ended up with 326 people attending the event on May 28th.
The first Geocache in Georgia was placed in 2000. In one month the Jackson County Heritage GeoTrail event which had 30 geocaches has put one geocache in the top 25 Favorite Caches in Georgia and 12 in the Top 50 Favorite Geocaches in Georgia.
It was an amazing and highly successful event and I am very proud of my younger sister for what she has accomplished. Now you can watch the video I created for her.
Facebook Ads
I am continuing in my journey to learn more and more about Facebook Ads. I have had some successes and some failures.
I am running Facebook Ads to get people to optin to my list so I can promote to them using my “modified” solo ad method. I am also promoting other people’s products with Facebook Ads.
In June I earned $2,275.27 from Facebook Ads

Conclusion
My first week of being unemployed started off very slowly. In fact it was so slow that I started to panic thinking I would not generate enough income and I was having nightmares of being hungry and homeless.
After my first week I really kicked it into gear. For three nights in a row in my second week I found myself working until 3 AM 2 AM and 3 AM. That is what you call putting in really long hours at the office.
When I sat down to calculate up my income for the month did I realize that I clearly had my best month ever. That was a comforting feeling because now I no longer have visions of being hungry and homeless.
In my day job I took home a little over $3,400.00 per month in income. In June I generated enough income to equal what I would have earned in 2 1/2 months in my day job. Clearly I made the right decision to give up my day job and I am looking forward to many, many more months of being unemployed.
Way to go! Congratulations on all of your hard work.
Michelle,
Thank you so very much. I am very excited about my first month of unemployment too.
Jennifer
Hey Jennifer,
Congrats on the amazing success! There’s no better feeling than being able to work from home full-time
You’ll also see your income continue to grow now that you’re full time!
Hey Joshua,
Thank so very much! You are right that it is an amazing experience to be your own boss. Looking forward to the growth in income.
Jennifer
A big hearty congratulations from London, hoping to emulate your success very soon.
Abz,
Thanks for the congratulations from London! I have been to your country 24 times in my life. Looking forward to hearing from you when you reach that accomplishment of success yourself.
Jennifer
Hi Jennifer,
Pretty impressive stuff seeing as you have only just gone full-time.
Giving up on the contract work should free up even more time that could be better utilized elsewhere.
Congratulations – you’ve got to be one of the hardest working IMers I know!
Regards
Steve Cooper
Steve,
You are probably right about the contract work but I am still doing some work for them here and there. It is not much just a couple of hours. Thanks!
Jennifer
Congrats Jennifer! Is always a scary thing to do but then you realize is the best thing you could have ever done.
Miki,
Thanks. You are right it was scary but now I am looking forward to the opportunity.
Jennifer
Hi Jennifer,
WOW wow was that the right decision or what….well done and keep going oh and enjoy the trip π
Can I ask is there any Solo Ads course that you could recommend as there is so much out there it becomes very diluted.
Thank you
Best Regards
Sam π
Sam,
I just got back from my trip and I enjoyed it very much. In about a few days I will have finished my course on my “modified” solo ads method and will be selling it. I would recommend buying it π
Jennifer
Hi Jennifer, a big congrats awesome stuff. Sold house 6 months ago, brought caravan and starting traveling the country (New Zealand) last month. Like you unemployed, we have enough budgeted for a year. Would love to start something on line. We both turned 60 at the beginning of the year and thought, that’s it resigned from work sold house, living in caravan. Would like to get into affiliate marketing and the plugin you mentioned a while back that you use for your Amazon sites, and was thinking of offering it to your list? Enough said enjoy your trip away you deserve it. It’s great aye not being a slave to the watch, work and all the other unnecessary things that clog our lives lol. Kevin & Donna
Kevin,
I am so envious that you traveling and you sold everything to be able to do that! That is incredible. Enjoy your travels. Yes you can definitely get started with affiliate marketing and with lots of action you can get it to the point where it can support you traveling for the rest of your life. Still working on the plugins but will let my list know when it is ready.
Jennifer
Hey Jennifer,
Well done on the full time IM. That is exactly what I am aiming for, hopefully will get there soon.
You are defo an action taker! Keep it up π
Take Care
Carl
Carl,
Thanks! Got your message on FB and just responded. Sorry for the delay because I was traveling and didn’t take a computer with me. I hope you get there real soon and you must let me know when you do get out of the ratrace.
Jennifer
Great job Jennifer!
I know the whole idea is to be able to be your own boss, but maybe you can also negotiate to work from home part-time, in your old job, on a permanent basis? An extra $450/month is not too shabby. At the same time also though, it doesn’t look like you need to since your other income streams are generating substantial revenue for you.
Another thing, for some reason, I’m still confused how you make money from solo ads and Facebook ads. I’ve heard about them before, but I still don’t understand it. Do you have articles explaining how you do it?
Nonetheless, I hope you have a great trip with your family — it’s definitely one of the benefits to making money online.
Keep inspiring,
Warren
Warren,
You are right about negotiating about work for my previous employer. I gave them a 6 week notice so I have no regrets for doing that and leaving on a positive note. They are still hands down working on some major projects so I don’t mind helping them out.
Yes I am working on a new report detailing exactly how I have combined my solo ads list with Facebook to make money. I should have it completed by end of the week. I recommend that you purchase it when it is out π
Just got back from the trip. It was an amazing trip. My mother wrote her first children’s book last year and won Georgia Author of the Year for Children’s Book for it. We are on mission to donate a copy of the book to a library in every state and in as many countries as possible. So we were able to cover 13 states + DC in 4 days of traveling. So great trip.
Jennifer
Hi Jennifer!
Great to have you back. Yes! I’ll definitely purchase your solo ads report when you release it. Thanks!
Keep inspiring,
Warren
You are an inspiration, congratulations on your success thus far! Now, how would you like to add “Coaching/Mentoring” income to this report?!? I just sent you a contact form email inquiry about this. I’ll make it worth your time. And I’m sure I’m not the only potential student you’ve got knocking on your classroom door! π
Stu,
Yes I have had quite a few people ask me about coaching but I have shied away since I dont consider myself as a coach. But I think now that I have lots of time during the day that I am seriously reconsidering that and will work on getting it together.
Jennifer
Hi Jennifer, that’s truly inspiring for me & I’m sure it will be for anyone contemplating going it alone or retired & needing to increase their income. And I must congratulate you on having the courage to be so open & honest about the income you are making & how you are doing it. Thank you
Ralph,
Thank you so very much for the kind words. When I started my blog I wanted to be as transparent as possible. I am hoping that others accomplish the same results (or better) by being encouraged by my actions.
You are welcome!
Jennifer
Congratulations Jennifer!
You truly are inspiring and brave. It takes a lot of guts to quit your job and follow your passions. Keep updating. I love your posts.
Sabrina!
Sabrina,
You are so right that it definitely takes courage. You just have to have a big enough “why” to motivate you so that you can accomplish your goals. If I can do it then anybody can do it.
Jennifer
